Join us on a wonderful Spinalonga Tour that takes you through some of the most beautiful and interesting places in Crete. This day trip includes nature, culture, local food, and the rich history of the famous island of Spinalonga.
We begin the Spinalonga Tour with a stop at a local olive oil park. You will see how people produce extra virgin olive oil, table olives, and olive paste. You can also taste real Greek olive oil, well-known for its rich taste and health benefits. Try other local products too, like Cretan raki, herbs, and natural honey.
Next, we visit the town of Agios Nikolaos, the capital of the Lasithi region. You can walk along the streets, visit small shops, or sit at a café near the famous Voulismeni Lake – also known as the “bottomless lake.” It’s a great place to relax and enjoy the view.
We continue to the beautiful village of Plaka, just across from Spinalonga island. This small fishing village is perfect for a relaxing lunch or a swim in the crystal-clear sea. From Plaka, you have the chance to take a short 15-minute boat ride to visit the island of Spinalonga.
The Spinalonga Tour is not complete without exploring the island itself. Spinalonga has a long and emotional history. In ancient times, it protected the city of Olous. Later, pirates used the island as a hideout. The Venetians built a strong fortress, and the Ottomans lived there for many years. In the 20th century, it became a leper colony, where people with leprosy lived in isolation until 1957. Walking around the island, you will see old buildings, stone walls, and beautiful sea views. Your guide will tell you stories that bring the past to life.
Our last stop is the famous resort town of Elounda. Once a quiet fishing village, Elounda is now home to many of Greece’s top luxury hotels. You can enjoy a coffee by the sea, take photos of the lovely harbor, or just walk around and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
