The Preveli Tropical Beach Tour is a perfect mix of nature, relaxation, and adventure—a day you won’t forget during your visit to Crete.
Join us on the Preveli Tropical Beach Tour and explore one of the most beautiful and unique beaches in South Crete. Preveli Beach—also known as Lake Preveli or Phoenix—sits at the end of the impressive Kourtaliotiko Gorge. Here, the Grand River (Megalos Potamos) flows into the sea. This beach is famous for its tropical feel and draws thousands of visitors each summer. Back in the 1960s and 1970s, it became a favorite hangout for hippies.
As we arrive, you’ll quickly see what makes this place so special. Along the riverbanks grow tall Theophrastus palm trees, creating a lush, tropical setting. This is the second-largest palm forest in Crete, just after Vai. The river forms a small lake about 500 meters long before reaching the sea. You can walk under the shade of the palm trees, explore the river path, or wander through the nearby canyon.
The beach itself is a mix of soft sand and small pebbles. On the east side, you’ll spot a rock shaped like a heart—great for photos and a fun detail to remember. The clear, turquoise water is perfect for swimming, and the peaceful surroundings make it easy to relax. During the Preveli Tropical Beach Tour, you’ll have around four hours of free time to enjoy the beach however you like.
Next, we make our way to the nearest parking area, surrounded by high cliffs. It’s a great place to take pictures before the walk down. To reach the beach, we follow a footpath with about 300 steps. The walk takes about 15 minutes and offers stunning views along the way.
After a full day of nature and fun, we return to the bus and head back to your hotel.
The best way to see Crete. Friendly and kind stuff always happy to answer your questions and guide you. I travelled with them to Spinalonga, Samaria Gorge and Elafonissi and I highly recommend. Thank you for the amazing experiences !!
Good experience! You will first be picked up by a small minibus near the hotel and then transferred to a larger coach. From Heraklion it takes a little under 3 hours from pick-up to arrival Preveli with a break in between. The large bus was comfortably air-conditioned and the ride was quiet too. Overall, the trip was on schedule and well organized. The guide was very friendly and in between gave valuable information about the area in different languages. Preveli is a beautiful place with many palm trees and a visit is recommended. The descent/ascent is rocky but can also be done with good flip-flops.
