This tour is a perfect choice for anyone who wants to experience the local culture and nature of Lasithi Plateau, and the amazing history of Knossos Palace – all in one unforgettable day.
Join us on a full-day tour through the mountains of Crete. This trip combines beautiful nature, traditional villages, and ancient history. At the end of the day, we visit the famous Knossos Palace, one of the most important landmarks on the island.
First, we stop at the Monastery of Kera Kardiotissa. Local nuns care for this quiet and peaceful place. Inside, you will see a well-known icon of the Virgin Mary, and many people believe it has special powers. You can also admire 14th-century wall paintings and religious art.
Next, we travel to the Lasithi Plateau. This green valley lies 850 meters above sea level, and the Dikti Mountains surround it. The area includes 18 small villages where people still follow traditional Cretan life. As we drive through the plateau, you will notice white windmills and old stone water channels. In the past, farmers used these Venetian ditches to water their fields.
Then, we visit the village of Psychro. Near the village, you can explore the Dicteon Cave. According to Greek mythology, Zeus was born there. Inside, you will see impressive rock formations that hang from the ceiling and rise from the ground.
Psychro is also famous for pottery. During our stop, you enter a local workshop and watch how craftsmen create ceramic items by hand using traditional methods.
After that, we continue to Tzermiado, the largest village on the plateau. Stone houses and mountain views give this place a special charm. Here, you can relax and enjoy a traditional Cretan lunch in a local taverna.
Finally, we arrive at Knossos Palace. This palace served as the center of the Minoan civilization, the first advanced civilization in Europe. During the guided tour, you walk through the ruins and hear stories about King Minos, the Minotaur, and the Labyrinth. The history, architecture, and legends make Knossos one of the top sights in Crete.
