Learn how to cook traditional Cretan dishes on a hands-on cooking class at the Lasithi Plateau.
Join a unique Cretan cooking class on the Lasithi Plateau and discover the secrets of traditional Cretan cuisine. This experience focuses on cooking demonstration and hands-on learning, not a food tasting tour. It is ideal for travelers who enjoy culture, cooking, and local traditions.
First, we visit the peaceful Kera Monastery. Take time to enjoy the quiet atmosphere and admire the traditional architecture and paintings.
Next, we continue to the village of Kaminaki. Here, you will collect fresh ingredients from local gardens. You will also experience traditional rural life, including simple farming activities and maybe goat milking
Then, we travel to Tzermiado, where the cooking lesson takes place in a local taverna. With guidance from local cooks, you will learn how to prepare classic Cretan recipes, such as: Dakos (a refreshing local dish with tomatoes and cheese), Dolmadakia (delicate vine leaves stuffed with a flavorful mixture of rice and herbs), Tzatziki (the classic Greek yogurt dip with cucumber, garlic, and herbs), and Mizithropitakia (delicious little pies filled with mizithra, a local cheese). Savor locally produced raki or Greek coffee as you cook.
The focus is on learning techniques and ingredients. During the lesson, you can enjoy a glass of homemade raki or a cup of Greek coffee.
After the lesson, you will have free time in Tzermiado. If you wish, you may stay at the taverna and order a meal separately.
Finally, this experience offers insight into the Cretan diet, local products, and everyday life on the Lasithi Plateau. It is a cultural and educational experience that connects food with tradition.
