Join us on an exciting Samaria Gorge Tour, one of the most unforgettable experiences in Crete.
This tour takes you through one of the longest and most beautiful gorges in Europe. We begin our day very early in the morning with a stop in Skaleta, where you can enjoy breakfast and prepare for the adventure ahead.
From there, we drive to the Omalos Plateau in the White Mountains. The hike begins at Xiloskalo, the starting point of the Samaria Gorge Tour. The gorge stretches 18 kilometers, and it usually takes about 6 to 7 hours to walk through it. The trail follows the path of the ancient river Taras and takes you through stunning natural scenery.
As we walk through the gorge, we pass caves that once served as shelters for locals during wartime. Today, they are home to the famous Cretan wild goat, the kri-kri. Halfway through the hike, we reach the abandoned village of Santa Maria, a quiet and scenic spot surrounded by nature. A few kilometers before the end, we arrive at the Iron Gates, also known as Sideroportes. This is the narrowest and most dramatic part of the gorge—just a few meters wide and 300 meters high.
At the end of the Samaria Gorge Tour, we reach the coastal village of Agia Roumeli. Here, you can enjoy a well-deserved lunch, take a refreshing swim in the Libyan Sea, or simply relax by the beach. Later, we board the boat that takes us along the beautiful southern coast to Sfakia, where our buses wait to take you back to your hotel.
