Join us on the Preveli Tropical Beach Tour and discover one of the most beautiful beaches in South Crete. Preveli Beach, also called Lake Preveli or Phoenix, lies at the end of the impressive Kourtaliotiko Gorge. Here, the Grand River (Megalos Potamos) flows into the sea.
This beach is famous for its tropical atmosphere. For this reason, it attracts thousands of visitors every summer. In fact, during the 1960s and 1970s, it became a popular meeting place for hippies.
As soon as we arrive, you will understand why this place is so special. Along the riverbanks, tall Theophrastus palm trees create a green and exotic landscape. In fact, this is the second-largest palm forest in Crete, after Vai.
The river forms a small lake about 500 meters long before it reaches the sea. Here, you can walk under the palm trees, follow the river path, or explore the nearby canyon. As a result, you can enjoy both sea and nature in one place.
The beach is a mix of soft sand and small pebbles. On the east side, you will see a heart-shaped rock, which is perfect for photos. Meanwhile, the clear turquoise water is ideal for swimming. During the tour, you will have about four hours of free time. Therefore, you can relax and enjoy the beach at your own pace.
Next, we stop at the nearby parking area, which is surrounded by high cliffs. From there, you can take beautiful photos of the landscape.
To reach the beach, we follow a footpath with around 300 steps. The walk takes about 15 minutes. However, the stunning views along the way make it truly worthwhile.
Finally, after a day full of swimming and nature, we return to the bus and drive back to your hotel.

Good experience! You will first be picked up by a small minibus near the hotel and then transferred to a larger coach. From Heraklion it takes a little under 3 hours from pick-up to arrival Preveli with a break in between. The large bus was comfortably air-conditioned and the ride was quiet too. Overall, the trip was on schedule and well organized. The guide was very friendly and in between gave valuable information about the area in different languages. Preveli is a beautiful place with many palm trees and a visit is recommended. The descent/ascent is rocky but can also be done with good flip-flops.
