The Lasithi Plateau Tour is a wonderful way to see a different side of Crete – full of nature, tradition, and myth. Ideal for travelers who love history, culture, and scenic beauty.
Join us for a special Lasithi Plateau Tour and explore one of the most peaceful areas in Crete. This half-day trip combines quiet villages, mountain views, and places full of history and legend.
First, we visit the Monastery of Kera Kardiotissa. Nuns live here and take care of the church. Inside, you can see beautiful wall paintings from the 14th century. You will also see a famous icon of the Virgin Mary. Many visitors believe this icon has special powers. The artwork tells stories from Crete’s religious past.
Next, we drive higher into the mountains and reach the Lasithi Plateau. This wide and green area lies 850 meters above sea level. The Dikti Mountains surround the plateau. In total, 18 small villages sit in this area, and local people still follow traditional Cretan life.
As we travel across the plateau, you will notice the white windmills. In the past, farmers used them to pump water to their fields. You will also see old Venetian ditches that helped with farming many years ago.
Then, we stop at the village of Psychro. Near the village, you can visit the Dicteon Cave. According to Greek mythology, Zeus was born there. Inside the cave, you will see impressive rock formations rising from the ground and hanging from the ceiling.
Psychro is also famous for pottery. During our visit, you enter a local workshop and watch how craftsmen create ceramic items by hand using traditional methods.
Finally, we arrive at Tzermiado, the largest village on the plateau. Stone houses and mountain views give the village a special charm. Here, you can relax and enjoy a tasty lunch in a local taverna before we return.
Overall, the Lasithi Plateau Tour offers a simple and enjoyable way to experience the natural beauty and traditions of Crete.
