We begin our day in Chania, one of the most charming cities in Crete. First, we explore the Old Town, which is full of life, colorful buildings, small shops, and cozy cafes.
As we walk through the narrow streets, we discover signs of the past. For example, there are remains from the Minoan period, old Venetian walls, Turkish mosques, and the famous lighthouse at the beautiful harbor. Because of this mix of cultures and styles, Chania is a very special place to visit.
Next, we drive to Lake Kournas, the only natural freshwater lake in Crete. The lake is surrounded by green hills and offers a peaceful place to relax.
Here, you can swim in the clear water, rent a paddle boat, walk along the shore, or simply enjoy the view. In addition, Lake Kournas is home to birds, turtles, and fish, and it is part of a protected natural area. We stop here for a break and enjoy a traditional Cretan lunch near the lake.
After that, we continue to Rethymno, the third largest town in Crete. The town has a long and rich history.
In the Old Town, you will see narrow streets, colorful houses, Venetian fortresses, and Turkish minarets. Moreover, many small details tell stories from the past. Finally, we visit the harbor, where you can enjoy a drink or take beautiful photos before we return.
