This two-day trip takes you to one of the most charming and traditional areas of Crete — the Lasithi Plateau. Surrounded by the Dikti Mountains, this peaceful highland is known for its 18 villages, old windmills, fertile land, and rich mythology.
DAY 1 Culture, Nature, and Local Life
We begin our trip with a visit to the historic Monastery of Kera Kardiotissa. This quiet monastery is cared for by local nuns. Inside, you can see old frescoes from the 14th century and a famous icon of the Virgin Mary, which many people believe is miraculous.
Next, we stop at a traditional pottery workshop. Here, you will see how Cretan ceramics are made by hand, using techniques passed down through generations.
Then we go to the village of Tzermiado, where our rooms are located. You can leave your bags and get comfortable before the afternoon activity.
Around midday, a local guide will take you on a 3-hour bike tour of the Lasithi Plateau countryside. You will explore small villages, meet local farmers, and try fresh fruits and vegetables directly from the fields. If you are lucky, someone may offer you a small glass of raki — the traditional Cretan drink.
At 7:00 p.m., we return to Tzermiado for dinner. You will enjoy a home-cooked meal: oven-baked pork or chicken with potatoes, Greek salad, tzatziki, bread, and a glass of wine or soft drink.
After dinner, the evening is yours to enjoy! You have free time to relax and enjoy a peaceful summer evening in the Cretan mountains.
DAY 2 Slow Morning and Optional Activities
The second day starts with a traditional Cretan breakfast. You can enjoy fresh local products like cheese, bread, and seasonal fruits.
The rest of the morning is free. You can relax or talk with the local guide to plan an extra activity — such as a short walk in nature or another light outdoor experience. The land around the plateau is flat and easy to explore.
In the early afternoon, we begin the return journey. After almost two days in the Cretan countryside, you leave with new memories and a real taste of life in Crete.
